Today I am sharing my favorite vlog I have created so far!
Perhaps the reason is that it is a vlog of the rotation I enjoyed the most to this day, which is plastic surgery at UZ Brussel.
Whenever I tell people that I like the medical specialty of plastic surgery, I either receive extremely positive or negative reactions.
Mostly, the negative reactions are from people who associate plastic surgery with the stereotype often portrayed by mainstream media.
Of course, a big part of plastic surgery is cosmetic surgery. But if performed well, the results will blow you away. You won’t be able to tell the difference between the pre and post surgery looks. However, the key is to get it done from an expert plastic surgeon.
Vandaag deel ik mijn meest favoriete video die ik tot nu toe heb gemaakt!
Misschien is de reden hiervoor het feit dat het een vlog is van mijn stage op plastische chirurgie aan het UZ Brussel.
Dit is de stage die ik tot nu toe het leukste vond.
Wanneer ik mensen vertel dat ik de medische tak van plastische chirurgie interessant vind, zijn er vaak mensen die oftewel heel positief reageren oftewel heel negatief.
De negatieve reacties komen vaak voort uit een associatie met het stereotiepe beeld dat de media altijd weergeeft indien het gaat om plastische chirurgie.
Natuurlijk is een groot deel van plastische chirurgie esthetische chirurgie -wat ik bovendien ook enorm interessant vind- maar zelfs esthetische chirurgie heeft vaak heel natuurlijke resultaten en heeft vaak niet het overdreven fake resultaat waar mensen direct aan denken.
I don’t think it is a superficial part of medicine because I believe that making a positive change in your appearance can often make you FEEL a lot better about yourself.
“Reconstructive surgery” is why people with burn scars or any scars have a chance to be their former selves. Surgeries like breast reconstruction, skin reconstruction after cancer, and burn wound surgery can help people heal emotionally from the traumatic experiences.
Ik vind ook helemaal niet dat het een oppervlakkige tak is van de geneeskunde.
Ik ben ervan overtuigd dat als je iets verandert aan je uiterlijk dat je enorm stoort, dat je je dan soms zoveel beter in je vel kan voelen!
Naast cosmetische chirurgie omvat plastische chirurgie ook reconstructieve operaties zoals bijvoorbeeld borstreconstructies, reconstructie na huidkanker, brandwonden,…
To learn more about my field of medicine, I spent one month at the plastic & reconstructive surgery department at UZ Brussel in June. I had the opportunity to watch the plastic surgery team, led by professor Hamdi, do breast reconstruction. It is performed a lot at UZ Brussel to make breast cancer survivors feel better about their bodies again.

Additionally, I wanted to show you that plastic surgery is so much more than how it is stereotyped!
Ik stond één maand op de afdeling plastische en reconstructieve chirurgie aan het UZ Brussel in juni waar professor Hamdi afdelingshoofd is.
Je kan de video onderaan bekijken om te zien hoe een dag op plastische chirurgie er voor mij uitziet.
Daarnaast wou ik jullie ook gewoon tonen dat plastische chirurgie heel veel facetten heeft en dus niet enkel de éénzijdige kant bevat dan het stereotypebeeld.

As you can see, I filmed the patient in this video for over half an hour, and I will make a mini-documentary about medical tourism. ? Stay tuned for that!

Ja inderdaad, ik zeg eerste video aangezien ik van plan ben om meer video’s te maken gerelateerd aan plastische chirurgie.
Ik ben momenteel bezig aan een minidocu over medisch toerisme (ik heb de patiënte in deze video gefilmd voor meer dan een halfuur).

Daarnaast was ik aan het denken om te proberen video’s te maken in het Engels in de nabije toekomst zodat ik een groter publiek kan bereiken en zodat internationale kijkers geen Engelstalige ondertiteling meer moeten aanzetten.
