My Minimalist Skincare Routine: Day and Evening

Achieving healthy and youthful-looking skin doesn’t have to involve a 10 or 20-step skincare routine. In fact, a minimalistic approach with only essential skincare products can be just as effective. In this post, I’ll walk you through my day and evening skincare routine, sharing tips and tricks along the way.

Evening Skincare Routine:

1. Double cleansing

When wearing makeup, it’s important to do double cleansing to ensure your skin is thoroughly clean and free from dirt, oil, and makeup residue. Start by using a micellar water or oil-based cleanser to remove all traces of makeup, including waterproof mascara and eyeliner, from your skin. Next, use a hydrating cleanser to deeply cleanse your skin and remove any remaining impurities.

2. Apply retinol cream

Retinol is a powerful ingredient that helps reduce fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots, and boosts collagen production. Apply a pea-sized amount of retinol to your face, avoiding the eye area and any areas of broken or irritated skin. Start with using retinol once or twice a week and gradually increase the frequency over time as your skin becomes more accustomed to it.

3. Moisturize

Apply a moisturizer to hydrate your skin and prevent dryness while you sleep. Use a small pea-sized amount of night cream and warm it up between your fingers. Be sure to cover your entire face, including your neck.

4. Eye cream (optional):

Use a separate eye cream if you’re concerned about issues such as puffiness, dark circles, fine lines or wrinkles around the eyes. Take a small amount of eye cream and gently dab it around the orbital bone, which is the bone that surrounds your eye.

Daytime Skincare Routine:

1. Cleansing

In the morning, cleanse your face with water or a gentle cleanser to remove any excess oils or dirt that may have accumulated overnight.

2. Apply vitamin C serum

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that helps protect your skin from environmental damage and brighten your complexion. Apply a few drops of vitamin C serum to your face and neck, avoiding the eye area.

3. Moisturize

Apply a moisturizer to hydrate your skin and prevent dryness during the day. Use upward and outward motions to massage the moisturizer into your skin, starting from the center of your face and working your way out. Remember to choose a moisturizer that’s appropriate for your skin type and concerns.

4. Apply SPF cream

Protect your skin from harmful UV rays that can cause premature aging and skin cancer by applying SPF cream every day. Use a sufficient amount of SPF cream and apply it to your face, neck, and chest area. Remember to reapply the SPF cream every 2 hours throughout the day.

So that’s my day and evening skincare routine! Keep in mind that while these products work well for me, everyone’s skin is different, and what works for me may not work for you. It’s important to listen to your skin and adjust your routine accordingly.
If you have specific skin concerns or conditions, it’s always a good idea to consult with a dermatologist for professional advice tailored to your individual needs.
Remember, skincare is not a one-size-fits-all solution, so be sure to personalize your routine and use the products that work best for you.

Lots of love,

Dr. Kim Detollenaere
